Thunderfire! (Updated)

Here is my just finished Thunderfire Cannon.  As I've stated before I really like this model, although I'm undecided on how effective it will be in actual battle.  The techmarine was fun to paint, but required a lot of detail work.

In battle I think it will be important to keep the cannon as far back as you can as it is rather fragile.  Usually, it won't make sense to bring it in with a drop pod, but it's still an option if you are going with a pure drop pod force (or, in my case, a hybrid "Deathwing" force using the new codex).  Its different types of ammunition are also handy.  In particular, the ammo that forces units to move as if in difficult terrain could be a game winner if used at precisely the right time.

Too bad that a straight Dark Angels army can't take a Thunderfire Cannon.  But, that is yet another consequence of DA (and the other non-vanilla marines) not getting a proper update.  Sigh.

Good looking model, I should be getting one soon. I feel you about the DA, wish we could use them. But in my vanilla list it may come in handy. Good job on the model though it looks really good.

I would love to see some more views.  I think if is important to remember that the techmarine alone is valued at ~75% the cost of the cannon unit since he has a full harness so it is not bad points value.  Maybe pick up a unit of servitors hiding behind him incase the cannon gets blown up.

Eriochrome -- that might work, but the techmarine with the cannon is not an independent character until the cannon is destroyed.  That means the servitors would be without a leader and therefore useless 50% of the time.  They aren't expensive, but you could end up with them doing nothing the whole game.

The real problem is the kill points they would yield.  I think you could line them up to protect a flank of the cannon from attack either by assault or cover save if the terrain the cannon is deployed in does not provide a save from one direction.

I do not really run Techmarines(I have just one without the full harness and 2 servitors) so I have not tested any uses for the new servitors.
