...if you play one of our games at Origins this year (more on this below).
I haven't posted in a while, but not because I haven't been busy with 40KOrigins stuff. It's just not ready to be posted to the blog for various reasons (not finished, not finalized, not approved, etc). However, I can let you in on some of the recent developments:
- We already have far more prize support than last year and we expect/hope for even more in the coming weeks. All our tournaments will offer prizes; the only question is how big.
- We will be offering an entire gaming packet of information that will have all you need to play any and all of our games.
- Plus, everyone who plays one of our games (multiple times if you play multiple games) will get a free thank you gift.
I also have an idea that we are mulling around here at 40KOrigins Labs which I want to open up to general comment -- namely, the possibility of doing our own Painting Contest.
The Grand Daemon offers the "Slayer Sword" for the best paint job, so we would like to offer the "Golden Gladius" to whomever wins our contest. This first year would have a limited range of categories -- Single Miniature; Squad/Regiment; Large Miniature -- but winners of each would receive prizes as well as the Grand Champion. Any models for any Games Workshop game would be accepted, not just Warhammer 40K.
My personal inclination is to insist on actual GW models, but then again we could open it up to any model from any manufacturer as long as it is clearly meant to represent a figure/unit from a GW game. So, you couldn't just, say, offer up a random warjack from Warmachine (even if the models are quite cool), but you could offer up a unit of "Cygnar" cavalry if painted as Empire Knights (with the right paint scheme and heraldry).
The Painting Contest is not a done deal, but we are leaning in that direction. Origins does already have a generic painting contest, but it is hardly supported and seldom attended. I'd like to see something more special to encourage people to go all out with their paint jobs and in general draw attention -- after all, don't we all like seeing pictures of great paint jobs? We already have the necessary display cases and other related material. We just want to make sure there is a basic level of interest out there.
So, what do people think?
